Born in Denver Co, Skip has had a varied and exciting career in the entertainment business! He started off playing the accordion at 7 yrs of age, moved on to the piano at 9, the guitar at 10. Due to his fingers gaining some length, he switched to the drums at 16. In the mid 1970’s, he
began drumming and singing with a popular local band from the Denver area. They traveled throughout the state of Colorado performing at clubs, colleges, and festivals, establishing a reputation for raw heavy, funk! Having developed a powerful, yet funky style, his drumming has led him to work with such diverse artist’s as, The World Famous Twister Band, The Marvelettes, Mitch Ryder, The Platters, Teresa Lynne Blues Band, Sundance & The Music In Blue, The Coasters, Angie Arnold, Legendary drummers- Buddy Miles & Alphonse Mouzon, keyboard extraordinaire, Joe Bonner, Funk Trumpeter Douglas Jackson, The Drifters, Sista Monica, Tommy Thomas & The Working Man’s Band, Lex’us Korner, Cat Lucero, and Linda Styles, among others. He has shared the stage with a host of performers including The Temptations, Santana, Joan Osborne, Average White Band, Boney James, Russ Freeman & The Rippingtons, Gerald Albright, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Primus, The Kinsey Report, Danny Seraphine(former drummer for Chicago), Classic Rock All-stars(featuring former members of Rare Earth, Sugar Loaf, and Iron Butterfly), Tab Benoit, Koko Taylor, Robben Ford & The Blue Line, Donald Harrison, El Chicano, Malo, and a list of others.

In addition to performing as a drummer/singer, Skip has co-produced a television show called Bigmouth & Knucklehead’s “Readertainment”, which encouraged reading/literacy among children. The show ran on DCTV, for almost 5 years. The show was also heard on Radio Disney Denver and Talk Radio 630 Khow. Voiceovers, speaking engagements, and hosting events, are also a part of his activities as well.

As of Jan 06, Skip became the on air host of the radio program called “A Funk Above The Rest”! The show broadcasts from the winner of the Major Market Jazz Station in the Nation for 2005/2006, Kuvo Radio 89.3 Saturday nights! The show is a mixture of Funk & Soul Music from the past to the present by both major & independent artists. Interviews, contests, trivia questions, mystery artists, on air giveaways are regular features of this unique program!  When you tune in, you will hear the “old funk-the new funk-the everything in between funk”! The show has become so popular that it is now in syndication on both Terrestrial and Internet Stations.

The show already boasts an incredible list of accomplishments during its short time on the airwaves. A Funk Above The Rest is reaching over 2.5 million listeners weekly. Interviews have been had with major recording artists such as Otis Williams (The Temptations), Teena Marie, Paul Riser (prolific composer, arranger, and honorary Funk Brother), Peter Rivera (Rare Earth), Abdul “Duke” Fakir (The Four Tops), Jeffrey Osborne, Emilio Castillo (Tower of Power), Jimmy Castor, and Cheryl Cooley, (Klymaxx), Comedian Sinbad, Jennifer Batten (Former guitarist w/Michael Jackson), Dorian Holley (Vocal director w/Michael Jackson), Jeffrey Osborne, and a rare interview with Mothers Finest to name a few. The show also promotes and has brought to center stage Independent Artists such as Aysha, The James Douglas Show, Tamika Nicole, Lina, G Wilson, and many, many others.

A Funk Above The Rest is endorsed by Motown-Universal Music Enterprises, Funky Town Grooves Record Label out of London England, The Arkiteks Music Group, and McDonalds in support of “on air giveaway’s.”

Skip also has contributed to supporting many Charitable and Non Profit Organizations to help raise funds for their purposes. Some of these include Sisters of Color, Colorado Cross Disability Coalition, African American Leadership Institute, MS United For Young Adults, Angel Eyes, Colorado Autism Society, and more.

Even though the show preserves a local feel, it has international appeal. You will hear music from all over the world with strong Urban R&B roots!
In collaboration with his radio show, Skip has written a regular column in the magazine “The Colorado Music Buzz” and “Big The Magazine” out of Orlando FL.

But it doesn’t stop there! Because of his support of Independent Artists, Skip will host an upcoming TV Show to be called “The Independent Artist Showcase!” The program will continue his desire to expose lesser known but equally talented artists and their music to a larger, broader, and deserving audience. The show will air on CoLours TV which broadcasts its programming on DISH Network Channel 9407. Their multi-cultural format is the perfect platform to take Independent Artists - A Funk Above The Rest!

Due to Skip’s height, he has affectionately become known as, the “Worlds Tallest Drummer”! Whether he is layin down a powerful groove behind the drums, reading a fun story to young children, or hosting a funky music radio show, you will certainly come to know, that Skip is very passionate about whatever he does. He lives by the slogan, “Don’t Be Afraid To Slam It”, meaning, “just give it your best”!
